Description:
Course objectives
Command of basic elements in the analysis of political and social processes.
Understanding of key political doctrines and ideologies, as well as their impact on social processes.


Learning outcomes at the level of the programme to which the course contributes
To define economic, cultural, political and social processes, as well as key social values, current forms of social actions and functions of different social norms.
To interpret the origins, meaning and applicability of sociological theories.


Expected learning outcomes at the level of the course (3 to 10 learning outcomes) To recognize and understand basic theoretic elements of social and political analysis.
To command elemental methods and develop the ability to apply them in concrete social and political situations.
To recognize the influence of different philosophical approaches on social and political analysis.
To develop critical understanding of social processes and phenomena.

1. Introductory remarks on the meaning and scope of social and political analysis
2. Methods of social and political research. General theory of systems and its application to social and political analysis.
3. Comparative methods
4. The role of polling in social and political analysis.
5. Philosophical approaches and their influence on social and political analysis. Idealism and realism.
6. The influence of idealism and realism on the analysis of international politics.
7. The essence of politics, its meaning and understanding for political analysis.
8. Sociological contribution to political analysis.
9. Political systems and political analysis.
10. The influence of ideologies on political analysis. Differences between ideology and doctrine.
11. The influence of liberalism on social and political analysis.
12. The influence of socialism on social and political analysis.
13. The influence of conservativism on social and political analysis.
14. The influence of Christian democracy on social and political analysis.
15. Contribution of political analysis to social studies

Hrvatski studiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pokrenuti su i ustrojeni 16. studenoga 1992., isprva samo kao dvosemestralni Sveučilišni komparativni studij hrvatske filozofije i društva. Taj je program potom preoblikovan u program redovitog četverogodišnjeg studija.
