About Us

The Department of Sociology was established in 1992 and is one of the core disciplines of the Faculty of Croatian Studies. The concept of sociology studies focuses on the application of sociological theories and social science methodology for understanding social processes and phenomena in the specific context of Croatian society and comparatively in a European and global perspective. The study of sociology aims to train highly qualified sociological research personnel with professional research and analytical skills necessary for productive work in the public and private sectors. The sociology program at the bachelor's and master's levels is organized according to current international scientific standards.

As part of the celebration of World Environment Day, the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the Holy See organised in June in Rome a scientific and professional conference entitled "Environment and Social Justice", in which Assoc. Ph.D. Andreja Sršen from the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Croatian Studies participated with the theme "Complete Ecology for a Complete Society - Social Sustainability in the Perspective of the European Union". The conference "Environment and Social Justice" had Pope Francis encyclical "Laudato si" - on care for the common home, with an emphasis on the importance of a complete ecology and the natural interconnectedness of man, his social environment and the environment, as the thematic basis for the professional academic discussion.

Hrvatski studiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu pokrenuti su i ustrojeni 16. studenoga 1992., isprva samo kao dvosemestralni Sveučilišni komparativni studij hrvatske filozofije i društva. Taj je program potom preoblikovan u program redovitog četverogodišnjeg studija.
